Paco Rabanne and MANULATEX, both vision and style…

Dubuffet said that "art crops up where you least expect it, by surprise ». And Paco Rabanne is without doubt his disciple. An anti-conformist by nature, this famous couturier and perfumer once again uses both humour and provocation to lead us off the beaten track - this time via a completely original collection of lights – marked with his unique, yet instantly recognisable style.

The project, a partnership with MANULATEX (a French company specialising in chain mail), under its brand name LE LABO design, has two outstanding collections:

« Spirales » is made up of a standard lamp, a table lamp and a ceiling lamp. These ultra-contemporary luminous sculptures in brushed aluminium and chain mail leap upwards in a swirling movement towards the sky.

On the other hand the second collection « Les Duchesses de Bretagne » is made up of a standard lamp, a table lamp, a ceiling lamp and a wall lamp – but this time all dressed in feminine softness. The collection is in plexi-glass and chromed steel, with a frame swathed in chain mail and Swarovski crystals. A curtain screen in stainless steel chain mail, also encrusted in Swarovski crystals, complements the lamps.

The overall effect, hovering as it does between the baroque and the avant-garde, remains totally Paco Rabanne….

First of all thanks to the materials. Metal is a signature material for the designer, here sculpted in its chain mail version. But metal also sets the seal on the long friendship between the designer and Monsieur and Madame Jaunault (of MANULATEX, a leader in the field).

Then to the design itself. Originally an architect, the couturier has a matchless sense of volume and space, which allows him to play and to take risks that lie somewhere between a wild minimalism and a carefully studied exuberance.

But let us not forget emotion! The emotion of a creator for whom light has always been an essential element in his work… metal, brilliance, reflections…. Culminating in these lighting pieces, which will never fail to dazzle and delight.
